I do not mind horror movies. Slasher-type, blood flying everywhere? I’m good. Old-school horror with a take on Dracula or some hauntings? I’m in.
BUT….once my brain is in charge of creating the scenes, that’s where things get a little tricky. This is when I am reading books. Too much gets imbedded in my mind, getting mixed up with reality, and then I don’t sleep well for a few days. I can’t really do the truly mind-f**kery ones. I love the idea of these stories and applaud the genius that goes into creating these stories – I just know that I am not their intended audience. And that is fine, too.
Every year, as October and Spooky Season rolls around, I love seeing the book recommendations for the thrillers and monster stories, but know that I won’t be partaking. Here are are a few that I do recommend if you don’t want quite so scary of a read.

Book Review – Hand-Fasting and Other Hazards
Hand-Fasting and Other Hazards by L.L. Campbell is a stand-alone story by the author of Tricky Magic and Tricky Princess, but the plot that was both boring at times and overwhelming and rushed at others leave this one as something of a miss.
Book Review – Lost Souls Meet
Lost Souls Meet Under a Full Moon by Mizuki Tsujimura is SUCH an amazing reading experience. As a small series of interconnected short stories that when it all comes together, the ending is breathtaking. I HIGHLY recommend this one.
