Book Description:
Liam MacKinlay is certain that when he asks for Evelyn Stewart’s hand in marriage, the third time’s the charm. For hasn’t he risen to war chief of the clan MacKinlay, a seasoned warrior, and an honored member of the clan that took him in as a child? But once again, her father denies Liam the lass he lost his heart to years ago.
Daughter of the Laird of the Stewart clan, Evelyn is expected to perform her daughter’s duty, including marry for the better of the clan… even if that’s against her will. But upon learning her father plans to trade her to an unknown clan in exchange for cattle, she will do almost anything to escape the future set out before her—including running away and marrying Liam MacKinlay.
Liam’s discovering that beneath Evelyn’s sweet disposition is an iron will to match any warrior. But now their marriage may start a war between the clans and Liam must fight for his new wife and his family. Even if it means raising his sword against those he calls “kin”…
My Take:
I received a digital copy of this book from NetGalley and Entangled Publishing.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
All thoughts and opinions are my own.
#NetGalley

An amazing talent for pacing had me devouring this book faster than I wanted to. I didn’t want it to end.
The third in the Clan MacKinlay Series, the author continues her amazing skill at plotting and pacing. Once again, this was a book I wanted to (and did) devour, but also tried to restrain myself to not let it be over.
Once again, illustrating how open and honest communication is the key to any healthy relationship.
With Her Accidental Highlander Husband, I stated:
“the main characters each try to hold secret their own troubles, but won’t abide that is the other, which results in them actually talking to each other and sharing their burdens – like a really couple….for too long we’ve been show that each individual should sacrifice themselves (mentally, emotionally, etc.) to soldier on and be the strong one. This book shows a true partnership and is amazing.”
With Her Reluctant Highlander Husband, I claimed:
“the characters get married early in the book and then have to deal with the troubles that come up in typical married life – dealing with your partners past, traumatic or not; learning to communicate your needs, wants, and dislikes; and overcoming obstacles as a team.”
These statements carry on in my admiration for Her Forbidden Highlander Husband, but that is not to imply that these books are redundant. This third book, wonderfully shows how Liam has watched the healthy relationships bloom around him, has wished for one for himself, learned from those who went before him, and then still had to figure out how is own relationship would need to work. As. We. All. Do.
The Final Verdict

My rating: 5 stars
