Top Ten Tuesday – Comfort Reads

SK - TTT - Comfort Reads

I truly shocked my family a couple of months ago when I made a comment about rereading books. Both MyHusband and MyChild dropped their jaws with the exclamation of, “What?!?” I never found rereading to be a strange thing. Knowing how the story will end and knowing exactly the tension and happiness that can be found is sometimes safer easier than starting a new book and leaving all of that unexpectedness up to chance.

Here are some of my favorite books to reread – in no particular order.

Second Star to the Left by Megan Van Dyke book cover

Second Star to the Left by Megan Van Dyke

Tinker Bell, banished from her homeland for doing the unthinkable, selling the hottest drug in Neverland—pixie dust—wants absolution. Determined to find a way home, Tink doesn’t hesitate to follow the one lead she has, even if that means seducing a filthy pirate to steal precious gems out from under his…hook.

Captain Hook believes he’s found a real treasure in Tink. That is, until he recovers from her pixie dust laced kiss with a curse that turns the seas against him. With his ship and reputation at the mercy of raging storms, he tracks down the little minx and demands she remove the curse. Too bad she can’t.

However, the mermaid queen has a solution to both of their problems, if Tink and Hook will work together to retrieve a magical item for her.

As they venture to the mysterious Shrouded Isles to find the priceless treasure, their shared nemesis closes in. However, his wrath is nothing compared to the realization that achieving their goal may mean losing something they never expected to find—each other.

And she couldn’t tell him the truth: she was already married–to a brutal outlaw who would track her to the ends of the earth …

Ethan thought he’d left his aristocratic past behind–until his family hunted him down, forcing him to return to England and claim an inheritance and a title he didn’t want. All he needed was a bride, and Josie Cooper had to say yes. Now he had to turn the sometime dance-hall girl into a countess. Love had nothing to do with it–until he fell head over heels for the newly minted countess who took London by storm…

How Miss Rutherford Got Her Groove Back by Sophie Barnes

Emily Rutherford is having a very bad day.

Of course, having the man you’ve loved forever announce his engagement to your (now very former) best friend will do that.

Now Emily has a choice: sulk in a corner while her sisters enjoy the glitter of the ton . . . or become the belle of the ball, dazzling everyone on an earl’s arm. But as Francis helps Emily get back on her feet, she quickly realizes that a childhood crush is nothing compared to the power of true love.

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen graphic novel book cover

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

Jane Austen referred to Pride and Prejudice (1813), the earliest-written of her published novels, as her “darling Child” – and generations of readers have taken it to their heart ever since. The irresistible attraction she portrays, between the sparkily independent Elizabeth Bennet and the solemnly austere Mr. Darcy, counts among the greatest, most romantic – and funniest – love-stories ever told.
