@universecitynyc Using food as a form of protest has long and storied roots in black communities, and urban farming and the Brownsville free fridge are acts of resistance to the food apartheid that leaves many BIPOC (black, indigenous, and people of color) neighborhoods without access to fresh, healthy food. Black people have experienced vastly disproportionate COVID-19 diagnoses and deaths to white people, so the Brownsville free fridge hopes to draw attention to the racist city-planning that has affected the health of their communities as well. It’s the quality of our air, how close we are to landfills, @amenra718 said, so why should they trust the government to properly feed them? 🥬🥬#GROWBROWNSVILLE Please donate : 💻 Thank you so much @eater for such writing such a purposeful and meaningful article 📰🗞💻📲 @iohnyc There are now eight (and counting!) free food fridges in NYC!!!⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ To be clear these are autonomous efforts by truly brave members of these communities. We are only here to share and support in any ways we can 💓… and hopefully you will too! ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ So a HUGE bravo to them! And to you! And to us!⁣ Thank you!!!!!⁣ ⁣#brooklyn #freefridge #blacklivesmatter #brownsville #eastnewyork #blm #foodjustice #foodequality #communityfirst #crowdfunding #gofundme #freefood #socialactivism #usnotme #family
